amazing how much foliage grows on old railway bridges. Hyde DP is carrying permalinks to the bridge posts and will be updated at intervals until Dec 2nd.

Lovely photo of an archway/bridge to drive under. I always enjoy the fun of saying “we just got ran over by a train”!

I have driven the Rock Creek Parkway and thought I recognized this scene when it first popped up.

I love how the bridge is at the centre of it all, but the trees and the road complete the whole picture.

The bridge was originally built over Rock Creek by the B&O as part of its “Metropolitan Branch” from Washington to Point of Rocks, where it joined the main line from Baltimore to the west. The Metropolitan Branch line opened in 1873. Rock Creek still flows under the bridge, below the road (Beach Drive). Does anyone know when the Beach Drive was built through there?
