Traffic
One of the main problems with events like a cycling race is the traffic disruption. Six lanes of traffic were funneled into three lanes making the Downtown journey a lot longer.

one of the problems with cars is that they clog up the roads so the cyclists have less room to bike. a bike race in silver spring once a year on a sunday is HARDLY disruption

It goes without saying the instead of a grand prix if you wanted to have a cookie bakeoff and close down the streets, the city fathers would not allow it. Or maybe they would.
