Harry Potter

21 July, 2007 | 20910, Downtown

Hairy Potter, Silver Spring. Nikon D200 | 1sec | f/8. It was Harry Potter Night in Downtown Silver Spring. Arriving we could see spotlights illuminating the sky. There was a band playing and it was busy. Interesting enough there were a large variety of folks dressed up (4-footed friends too) trolling around in anticipation of the release of the last Harry Potter. Although, the people seemed to energize the street I was surprised by the lack of decoration on the street for the second biggest celebration in the US. This was a little disappointing even with four t.v. crews preparing to broadcast.

I am just amazed at the circus-like atmosphere built up about the books release. I had no idea that it is this big and that so many fans out there would wait up most of the night to get a copy for themselves. It is as big and as exciting as the first computers were when computing was new.

I noticed someone was trying a little humor on the dog by writing Harry as Hairy.

We walked into our local Asda [equivalent of Walmart] this morning and picked a copy up for a fiver [that's £5 around $10 or 7.5 euros] No need to queue or anything.

We were very disappointed with the Silver Spring event - I blogged about it http://blog.heatherbartlettart.com and posted some photos in my entry “A Deathly Hollow Evening in Silver Spring” - my daughter was very disappointed and they had very little for the teens - the crush of people was so bad it made the whole thing impossible.
