English Castle

3 May, 2007 | 20910, Forest Glen, Living

English Castle, National Seminary, Forest Glen. Canon SD600 1/1250s f/2.8.

The English Castle is one of the historic buildings at the National Park Seminary in Forest Glen. Most of the historic buildings are being renovated and converted to condos and single family homes. The first phase of renovation is underway and condos are being offered, starting at 600,000 USD. The castle is part of phase two and so it will be a couple of years before someone can call it home.

When I was younger and able to go up and down stairs like a deer, I would go for a castle like this one, but now that I am old and graying, and have lost most of my teeth, and things don’t go bump in the night, I would have to pass on this kind of house. I wish. I wish I could still go up and down stairs, period.

I believe that the English castle, along with the Japanese pagoda and Swiss chalet, were originally built as sorority houses back when the National Park Seminary was an exclusive girls’ finishing school. (My mom and dad played all through there when they were kids; by the time I was growing up, NPS was part of Walter Reed and we were sternly warned to stay away.)
