Final Days

13 April, 2007 | 20910, Downtown, Shops

Shop closing in Silver Spring. Canon SD600 1/320s f2.8.

Meandering along Colesville, we were struck by the older businesses that remained with all the renovation that has occurred in Silver Spring, until we came to this store.

always sad to see these old businesses go — priced out by increased rents in many cases

Interesting photograph. Some blame these events on Walmart stores. Others say it is poor management by the owners. Still others don’t say anything but enjoy the sale.

Dudes that store has been going out of business for almost two years now. Nothing new.

No doubt something new and extremely expensive will take its place - something that can afford the fat new post-renovation rents….

But, will it really go? Sometimes these signs aren’t all they seem?

These signs have been there for a while now… Someone should go in and ask them what day they are finally closing up shop. I’m not sure, and probably wrong, but i think that the Birchmere is expanding into its space.
