Thanks for the update. I did wonder about the claim as it didn't seem that big inside.

It used to be the largest Christian bookstore in North America. The Staples next door was originally part of the Potomac Adventist Book and Health Food, but they had to give the space up. I'm not sure why. Perhaps there wasn't enough of a market for angel figurines and tofu.

Silver Spring Penguin, Adventist doctrine does not ban meat, but the church culture does encourage vegetarianism.

I will tell her to have a look next time we are up that way. I did notice a lot of tinned mock meat products which I have not seen anywhere else.

I'm a big fan of Whole Foods, but they don't carry the same inventory of mock meat as the Adventist store.

If you should find yourself on Cherry Hill Road again, check out the store's mock barbecued pork (in the freezer section). It's seasoned like Chinese roasted pork and ROCKS when tossed into a stir-fry.

Happy dining!

As my wife is a vegetarian we always like to check out what is available. I think they have one or two things that she found interesting but most of the items are available at Whole Foods, which is a lot closer to us.

They also have a decent grocery department for vegetarians. (I guess Adventists don't eat meat?) Lots of "mock" beef, pork and chicken. All are made of soy or some other plant protein. Generally, I bypass the books and head straight for the food.
