Country Store

The Country Store was closed when I moved back to the area and has remained empty since. Renovations were started last year and it looks like it will be reopening in the near future. After a quick look at the permits on the door it looks like it will some sort of restaurant.

Gillian Clark, owner of the lovely Colorado Kitchen in northwest DC, originally planned on opening her second restaurant, this one pub-style, in the country store. Ultimately, the plan fell through. Ms. Clark is currently considering Takoma Park as the location instead.

Does anyone know what it is or when it will open? It looks ready to go!

They are open now for take away orders only featuring a limited menu. I was speaking to them this afternoon and they are still waiting for the parking situation to be sorted out before they can fully open.

The FGCS used to be Fowler’s Market; it was a tiny neighborhood grocery store. I grew up just a half-block away on Forest Glen Road, and my mom used to do all of her grocery shopping there. I used to walk down there and charge penny candy and Nehi grape sodas to my mom’s account, until Pa Fowler asked if my mom knew I was doing it. Busted!
